Clean Earth
The year was 1970. People were driving muscle cars around without a thought about emissions. The word environment was not yet in the common vernacular. But, the times, they were a-changin’. After an oil spill in California, the idea was formed to harness the energy of the anti-war protests and activism of the day and focus it on air and water pollution. On April 22, 1970 the very first Earth Day was observed.
A lot has changed in the past 48 years. People are much more aware of the environment and the impact of our actions. This year, Earth Day is focused on ending plastic pollution.
Checkers wants to partner with you to promote awareness of green activities and products. This article will highlight some areas of focus.
Chemical dispensers such as our Betco Fastdraw products provide the perfect amount each time and the right product for the job. This accuracy eliminates the guessing game, which often results in needing to do the job again, using twice as many chemicals as needed. Dispensers also limit spills, which is not only helpful for the environment but also on your budget.
In addition to decreasing the amount of wasted chemicals, a dispensing system can save up to 99.9% of waste packaging when compared to ready-to-use products. This is a great way to honour 2018’s focus on ending plastic pollution. The environmental impact is widespread when you consider shipping concentrated chemicals rather than heavily packaged ready to use products. Less packaging equals less waste and fewer deliveries (reducing the carbon footprint).
Checkers carries a variety of green products such as this degreaser, glass cleaner and multipurpose cleaner. These products are environmentally preferred and include natural ingredients from soy, pine, citrus fruits and coconuts. Look for Betco’s Green Earth line for your specific cleaning needs.
You can also choose products with post-consumer recycled content. Cascades PRO Perform roll towels offer 100% recycled fiber and 50% post-consumer fiber. These towels offer strength and absorbency while being Green Seal approved. Using recycled paper saves resources and reduces the paper industry’s impact on the planet. According to Green America, using recycled paper (of any kind) saves
100% of the trees
31% of the energy
53% of the water and produces
39% less solid waste
Be sure to provide recycle bins so paper can be diverted from landfills. The Environmental Protection Agency identifies paper decomposition as the most significant source of landfill methane. This gas is a major contributor to global climate change. It’s so important to recycle all that you can.
Checkers not only takes cleaning seriously, but our earth as well. As we celebrate Earth Day, reflect on how you can clean while staying green. Contact us for recommendations or further information.
